Maple Leaf Quilt Block Tutorial

Greetings friends!

It's officially September! Hooray! Soup season and "Sweatah Weathah" are just around the corner. But first soaking up the last of summer. And a very busy week ahead.

Lots to share today including a rare time that I'm selling some of my quilt samples with all proceeds going toward a great cause. And a quick wrap up on an end-of-summer time with family.

But first: with Fall officially (well, unofficially, but you know what I mean) here, it's time to pull out the fall quilts. And one of my favorite to pull out every year is this Modern Maples Quilt.

I made this one about 12 years ago using gorgeous shot cottons and I still love everything about it. The quilting on this one is amazing too. You can see pictures and read more about my Modern Maples quilt here.

A few years ago I wrote up a tutorial for this classic Maple Leaf Quilt block in three different sizes. The post also includes a free printable download of the pattern tutorial for easy reference.

Meet Wrap the World in Quilts

This week I have a new post spotlighting Wrap the World With Quilts. This grassroots, maker-powered nonprofit has been hard at work for the past 3 years getting handmade quilts to people in crisis across the globe and close to home.

In just over 3 years they have collected and distributed over 59,000 quilts and blankets. ๐Ÿ˜ง

Inside the post youโ€™ll find quick ways to help including how to donate a quilt (that you can ship with a $20 flat-rate label), volunteer, or give funds.

I'm also having a rare event where I'm selling some of my favorite sample quilts with ALL of the proceeds going to Wrap the World With Quilts. If you know anyone who likes quilts and good causes, feel free to forward this to them!

Andy at A Bright Corner has a new variation on a falling maple leaf quilt with her Maple Valley quilt.

Leila Gardunia has a free foundation paper-pieced leaf block, perfect for using fall colored fabric scraps! It's also a great beginning project for learning Foundation Paper Piecing.

For more advanced paper piecing blocks check out the intricate leaf quilt blocks from June, Joe & Mae as well as a couple geometric versions from Center Street Quilts.

Don't want to take on a complex quilt? The Seasoned Homemaker has a quick fall leaves applique mug rug pattern here.

See Me Live Next Week ๐Ÿงต

This week is the Garden of Quilts event here in Lehi, Utah at Thanksgiving Point. I'll be doing a lecture/trunk show Friday morning, Sept 12 at 9:30 in the Gardens (free with the price of admission) and participating in the Meet the Maker event that evening. I'll also be at the Wrap the World with Quilts booth Saturday (Sept 13) from 10-11 in the Vendor Hall (free to anyone!)

If you're there, please come say Hi! I'd love to see you!

For those who can't be in Utah this week, I'm also giving a lecture in the online Quilted Summit September 16-17 about Modern Quilting. The online event is free but you do need to register to get access to the broadcasts. (There is a paid upgrade option which gives some valuable perks (about $1200 worth), and long-term access to all the presentations.)

Whew! Not going to lie, I'm so excited about the week ahead. I haven't been to Garden of Quilts for a couple of years and I love this event so much. But it's also going to be crazy busy. ๐Ÿ˜… I had a trunk show out of town yesterday (shout out to Debbie, newsletter reader who came up afterward to say hi!) and now I'm in full prep mode for teaching.

Fortunately we had a relaxing end-of-summer getaway last week with our grown-up kids to visit the Grandparents and extended family in New Hampshire. We had no agenda except hanging out, which was so nice. And it's a pretty great bonus when you just get to hang out at coasts or lakes and eat seafood while you're at it. Things we don't have a lot of out west. But mostly, great to just be together.

Two of our favorite people in the world are my husband's two youngest brothers. They are also the worlds' best Uncles to my kids. They both have down syndrome, but are not twins. (A frequently asked question.) In case you couldn't tell, they are also die hard Boston/New England sports fans. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Another great outing was antiquing with my sister-in-law. I didn't have any plans to buy anything (I'd only brought a carry-on suitcase) but then a quilt caught my eye. And when I opened it up, my jaw dropped. I found a way to get it home! It definitely deserves a post all it's own, but here's a tease.

You can find more of our New England and Antiquing adventures on my Instagram highlights.

Finally, last call for 20% off my new quilt pattern Briarcreek Blooms! Sale ends Monday.

Wishing you a great week where you are. Thanks so much for stopping by.

xo,

Amy
