Free Halloween Sewing Projects + Pattern of the Week + Y-Seams Tutorial/Free PatternGreetings friends! Hope your weekend is treating you well. We have been having unseasonably warm weather, so to be honest, I haven't really felt in the Halloween mood. But Trader Joes and my calendar are reminding me that October is almost here, so today I started pulling out some of my Halloween dΓ©cor. That also inspired me to put together a fun list of Halloween inspired sewing ideas you still have time to make (or at least start) before the season gets here! One of my favorite quilts I pull out every fall is this Halloween Bunting quilt. After years of collecting cute Halloween fabrics and prints, I finally put them to use! This Bunting quilt comes together SO fast and bonus - it's especially perfect for showing off fun, large scale prints! You really could whip up this one in time for Halloween if you want! (Or get an early start on Halloween next year.) This is also the pattern of the week and marked down 20% off this week only!
Fun Finds on the Web - Halloween Sewing and Crafting IdeasAnother favorite Halloween project I pull out every year is my patchwork pumpkin pillow (left). Fat Quarter Shop SalesThe Fat Quarter Shop has had some great products on sale for September including Riley Blake Confetti Cotton Solids, Gypsy Quilter Notions and Lori Holt's Spelling Bee book. Find all of the deals that end soon here.β Oh man, it's hard to believe that September is coming to a close. My favorite month of the year has lived up my expectations and I'm so thankful. Beautiful weather, lots of my favorite fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the garden. (Or my neighbor's gardens. I'm thankful for neighbors who share. Or Farm stands!) This week my husband and I went on a hike for our anniversary to my favorite September spot in the mountains. I've learned that this spot is at it's peak at the end of September. There's red maples along the trail on the way up and the aspen's higher up on the mountain have turned gold. My husband wanted to go a little farther up the trail, and I happily sat here all alone for 30 min. I'm trying to carve out more purposely quiet time in my life. I go for walks most mornings and I've stopped listening to music or podcasts on those walks, just letting my mind think and wander. It's been a good way to clear my head each morning. My brain tends to be a "problem-solver" brain. (I guess most brains are since that's what they're designed for. lol) Lately it's felt like there are so many big problems that need solving. And I admit, even though as much as I'd like to, I can't solve them all! On that day in the mountains I purposely turned off the problem-solving part of my brain and just stayed present, which honestly took some serious effort. I tried to use my senses to just take detailed notice of what I could see, hear, smell, touch and even taste. (I dropped my water bottle and noticed the slight bit of dirt I tasted on on the mouthpiece when I took my next swig of water.) Did the experience fundamentally change my life? No. But maybe? I did feel more peace after the experience. And some more big-picture perspective. As I my mind wandered through problems to be solved through the following days, I felt more clarity. Some. Not all of the solutions to the problems of the universe, but some grounding to help me tackle my problems of this week. So I'll take it. And try to get out more over the coming weeks as the colors in the mountains continue to shift and change. Welp, that's enough "Deep Thoughts by Amy Smart" for one week. The evenings are getting darker earlier and I've started pulling out the hot chocolate and cardigans some days. So I guess it means October is just around the corner. Good think I love October too. π Have a great week.
