How to Choose Batting For a Quilt +

Greetings friends!

I can't believe it's almost September! I have a crazy amount of stuff going on in the next few weeks, life feels a little bonkers. I've also got so much to share over the coming weeks because my next fabric collection, Mary Catherine arrives in stores this month. So let's start now. Here is one of those new projects!

I teased this a few weeks ago, but here is the official introduction of my newest quilt pattern, Briarcreek Blooms to the rest of the world. This pattern is a slightly different look for me, specifically a medallion style quilt. This also means this quilt has three different sizes/looks based on how many borders you want to add!

Click below to read all about this new quilt, details about the two versions I've made (so far), including this version in Mary Catherine prints, and for the special discount for this week only!

Back to Basics: How to Choose Batting for a Quilt

Let's talk quilting basics. Adding batting to a quilt is what makes a quilt a quilt - and yet the process can be complex and confusing because there are so many batting options to choose from.

How do you know which kind of batting to choose? And where to find the best price?

This week I updated my post about How to Choose Batting for a Quilt. And with the close of JOANN's (RIP JOANN's ๐Ÿ˜“) - which is where I got most of my batting - I've listed more options.

We also talk about:

  • Fiber (cotton vs. blend vs. wool, bamboo, etc.)
  • "Loft" (how thick should your batting be?)
  • Some really helpful tips from a professional long-arm quilter.

Don't need this information right now but might want to find it later? Go to the post and pin this image so you can find this reference guide easily.

Fall Acorn Coaster/Ornament Tutorial

One of the most popular summer tutorials on my blog is Nadra's (of Ellis and Higgs) Strawberry Coaster. Did you know Nadra also has a tutorial for some cute Acorns? Aren't they perfect for Fall?

Fun Finds on the Web:

Looking for a quick finish? Or maybe the perfect gift for a friend who sews? The Simple Sprocket Pincushion tutorial from Sedef Imer is the perfect answer. And her clever construction method makes it even easier than it looks.

Another cute use for "cheater quilt" panels - check out the adorable overalls made by Mary of Ember Craft Co. She's also got tutorial for a beautiful Hexie Diamonds quilt with no Y-seams.

I'm thinking this quilted water flask holder would come in handy on my hikes. โ€‹Hydro Flask holder tutorial by Bayhill Studio.โ€‹

I am SO excited that my FAVORITE month of the year is almost here! I'm already enjoying slightly cooler temps and soaking up being outside as much as possible. You know that Christmas song, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? I sing that song all through the month of September.

I went to a farm stand today and if this picture doesn't sum up September, I don't know what does: Pots still in full bloom, but a few pumpkins creeping onto the porch. I love it!

Before Fall totally kicks in (and life gets crazy with a new fabric collection release and teaching/speaking at Garden of Quilts in a couple of weeks...) I'm enjoying some time with family over the long weekend. We've got 3 out of our 4 kids together, as well as out-of-state extended family and it's been so good to be with everyone! I've kept my agenda light, eaten way too much ice cream, and just enjoying time with each of them..

Weekends like this in the past I would always have a handwork project with me so I could maximize my time. As I'm getting older, I'm trying to do a better job of just slowing down, not always feeling the need to multi-task and being present. I like it.

Hoping you have a great weekend where you are.

xo,

Amy
